Zakynthos Spearfishing Course

In this course, you will have the chance to explore the underwater environment of the beautiful island of Zakynthos in Greece.

You will learn about the different animals that inhabit these waters, their habits and characteristics, as well as how to hunt them efficiently and sustainably.
Together, we will explore grouper caves, ambush near reefs, learn from and use bait fish movements, the currents and the sun to our advantage for a successful hunt against some of the most gifted predators of the sea.
The course is given by Dennis Marinakis, a local spearfisher who has intimate in depth knowledge of the marine life of the island.
I will be supervising and participating as well as one of the two in water instructors and safeties for the buddy teams.
Only two participants at a time will be able to join, so we can create two buddy teams for our spearfishing and not disturb the marine environment too much.

The outline of the course is as follows:

• Day 1: Theory on our intended prey and hunting methods, as well as familiarisation with the equipment and target practice.
• Day 2: Practice in shallow waters of the hunting techniques explained in theory, analysis and corrections.
• Day 3: Hunting day
• Day 4: Rest day, cooking our catch and reviewing footage
• Day 5: Hunting day
• Day 6: Hunting day

On the evening of the last day we will have a big bbq with all the fish that we’ve caught to close out the course and the week of activities!

* If you are an intermediate or advanced spearfisher, we can tailor the schedule to your needs and provide tips and help according to your available time, prey preference, diving performance and freediving style.

The cost per person is 800 euros and will be available from the 9th of August 2024.
